The Queensland resources sector has defied the COVID-19 global pandemic economy by adding 10,259 jobs – or more than one extra job every hour – over the quarter to February this year, according to ABS data.
Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said "the ABS data showed a 15 percent increase in direct jobs employed in the resources sector to reach 76,854 across Queensland over the past 12 months…. so Queenslanders have every reason to feel optimistic about the future as our sector continues to go from strength to strength…”

Ian Macfarlane was elected to Federal Parliament in 1998 and became Australia’s longest serving Federal Resources and Energy Minister and the Coalition’s longest serving Federal Industry and Innovation Minister with over 14 years of experience in both Cabinet and shadow ministerial positions before retiring from parliament in May 2016.
Ian is the Chief Executive of the Queensland Resources Council, a non-executive director of Woodside Petroleum, the Chairman of the Innovative Manufacturing Co-operative Research Centre, a member of the University of Queensland Rural Clinical School Toowoomba Community Advisory Committee, a Board Member of both Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise and METS Ignited Australia Limited, an Honorary Fellow of AusIMM Minerals Institute, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
